Camera Fun

We went to dinner with friends at Taqueria Neuva (Burnside and 28th Ave) last night. Good friends, service and food. Next time I want to try the barbacoa lamb. I'm very interested in the barbacoa process and am thinking about experimenting with making my own barbacoa this summer. Zoe joined us at dinner. She and Kennedy had a picture taking exchange. Here is a picture Kennedy took of Zoe:

Sunny Sunday

We had a fantastic streak of weather this weekend where the high on Sunday reached around 70 degrees. It didn't take too much prompting for the weather to lure us outside. Kennedy enjoyed just hanging out on the porch waiting for her slow mommies before heading out to the park.

Me with the two kiddos. We knew we'd want maximum time soaking up the sun so we dragged our camp chairs to the park.

We're woefully behind on blog posts - I'm sad to say... Monday was my Dad's birthday so we celebrated last Saturday.

Here's Grandma and Grandpa reading to Kennedy - one of her favorite things to do.

Kennedy's sense of humor is really coming about. Lately, she's been infatuated with Knock Knock jokes which, by the way, are funny in only the way 3 year olds think they are funny. Her current favorite goes like this:
Knock Knock
Who's There?
Banana
Banana who?
Banana orange.

Here I am hanging out with the kiddos; it's sometimes hard to balance the two of them given their various demands - but it's worth every second!

6 Week Milestones

Big Boy Oliver continues to grow and thrive. Last week's weigh in came in at a whopping 10 poinds, 11 ounces. At this rate, he's averaging about 1/2 pound per week.

Other big news is that we're starting to get smiles out of Oliver and some cooing too.

Stacey's Visit - part 1

We were so overjoyed to have our oldest daughter - Stacey - join us for a few days in Portland. Given that she lives in Texas and is attending school, we really anticipate those moments when we can get her up to Portland. Stacey was so excited to meet her newest baby brother.

Of course, Stacey got busy showing Kennedy a few Big Sister tricks - such as hanging from the monkey bars.

Trips to the park were frequent - particularly over the weekend when we had such gorgeous spring weather.

Oliver also enjoyed the personal attention he received - although he slept through most of it. Stacey was always eager to hold Oliver and particularly liked it when he slept on her.

Bits and Pieces

We've been busy enjoying the sunshine this weekend and the fantastic company of Stacey. Updates from her visit coming soon... In the meantime, a couple of pics we've been meaning to post:

Kay demonstrating expert baby handling; this is a great position for Oliver and really helps when he has to burp.

A week ago, we had a visit from my high school friend, Ruth. It was great to see her!

Preparing for Big Sister Stacey

Stacey arrived for a visit this week and, in preparation, Kennedy and I made her Pineapple Upside Down cake. Fortunately, we didn't have a 13"x9" pan, so we had to make two smaller cakes. (Bonus - we got to sample the cake early and still offer an unspoiled cake to Stacey - ha ha).

Kennedy with the finished product. This was the first time Kennedy had tried maraschino cherries which she declared were very yummy.

Princess Castle Overruns Living Room

Aunt Peggy and Uncle Eric graced Kennedy with this large - or should I say, Ginormous - princess tent as a late Christmas present.

Kennedy was beside herself with joy feeling this was the best present ever. Our reaction upon seeing it, however, was a bit more like this (ha!):

All kidding aside, we really do like the tent and are looking forward to taking it camping with us. We're also contemplating finishing out the basement someday where there is room enough for it. The garage is another option we're considering; every princess needs a dry place to play in the dreary rainy Oregon. In fact, this weekend, the tricycle got a workout in the garage as the rain kept park trips at bay.

Oliver's Milestones - Part 2

Tomorrow marks 4 weeks that Oliver has been gracing us with his presence. His head control is very good and I love to watch him fall asleep when he has on display a number of expressions including grimaces, nursing mouth and sleep smiles (my favorite).

On the growth front, Mr. Oliver has put on a stunning amount of weight. While we knew he was going through a growth spurt over the last week - we were nonetheless floored to find that he's put on a full two pounds over his birth weight. Way to grow! Here's Oliver sporting a favorite outfit originally purchased for Kennedy by Aunt Shelly:

The final milestone worth mentioning here is that this afternoon I fed Oliver his first bottle of expressed milk. This milestone is particularly important as I will be attending a business dinner next week so we know the little guy won't starve in my absence.

Visit from Mimi

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Mimi Clark a few days ago. Given that Mimi and Papa Clark own a grocery store which consumes much of their time, my mom doesn't make it to Oregon very often so it was a real treat!

Mimi and Kennedy were quick to snuggle with Oliver.

True to form, we find Mimi making Oliver at home on the bouncy ball. When Kennedy was a baby this was the only way to ease her crying. Luckily, Oliver seems willing to settle down with a number of different tricks (walking, rocking, etc.).

Sadly, Mimi's visit was only for a few days before she had to head back home to run the family business. I managed to capture this one last snuggle before she left.

Kennedy and I took Mimi to the airport where Kennedy introduced her to the concept of Pirate's Booty. Mimi wasn't too impressed which was find by Kennedy - she managed to finish the entire bag before we got home.

New Milestones

One of the amazing things about having another baby is to watch with curiosity the milestones as they unfold. No longer are we pouring through every baby manual known to man to anticipate and over analyze and wring our hands over every little behavior. Now we're simply enjoying the newness as it comes about. Recent milestones for Oliver include his interactive calm periods where he gazes in wonder at our faces, maturing bowels (less frequent small poops = occasionally near-blowouts; still haven't decided which is better - ha!), and, of course, weight gain and growth. Yesterday, I swear I got a half-smile a couple of times when playing with him - can't wait for that smile to really emerge.

I've really enjoyed having time off with Oliver and not having to work. While he still mostly sleeps I've been able to form somewhat of a routine that includes keeping the house mess to a dull roar, doing laundry (at least 2 loads a day - ugh), and of course, nursing and changing Oliver every 2 hours or so. I'm trying to also squeeze in just a titch of personal time too so that I can catch up on my reading.

Below are two photos of Sheryl:Baby self portraits. The first is with Kennedy when she was a couple of months old; the second is Sheryl and Oliver.
