Kennedy's latest milestones

Sorry for the silence on this end; we've been battling getting the new blogger system to communicate with our server. That, combined with the fact that our new digital camera is on the fritz, leaves us empty handed on the photo front.

We've been having a blast with Kennedy. This past weekend we resumed Kennedy's music class and we're relieved to have a new CD for the car. Kennedy loves the Hello Song the best - but also a few silly ones like Baa Baa Black Sheep and the Bumblebee song. It's great to sing these songs with her.

She's also getting great at counting and her ABCs. She can now count to 10 pretty easily and seems to recognize the values attached.

Art remains a highlight of her day - we have a small kid table we put butcher paper over and she colors all over it (well, we all do, actually). Lately she's been drawing turtles and asks us to draw all kinds of things for her like stars, elephants, cats, dogs, etc. We all have a good laugh when I attempt to draw an animal - drawing is definitely not in my core competencies!

Helper

Kennedy is quite the helper with loading laundry into the washer and dryer and dishes into the dishwasher.

She's starting to ask a lot of questions now. "What's that?" "What are you doing?" "What are you singing?" "What's that?" "What's that?" "What's that?" "Where's mommy?" "Where's Mimi?" "Where's Papa?" "What's that?"

Movie Child

Here's a picture of Stacey and Kennedy going through a stack of movies. Carl's watching on and playing the guitar.

Girlfriend has turned in to quite the movie watcher. We limit her movie watching and it's fairly easy to divert her attention to some other activity. Even so, this is her "I want to watch my movie" look.

Fireplace reflection

For whatever reason we have very few pictures of Papa Clark from this trip. Our camera broke at one point and I think that we just stopped taking pictures in the evening when Papa was home mostly. He's one of the hardest workers we know. If there's daylight, he's working on something outside. Here's a picture of Kennedy on Mimi and Papa's fireplace.

Reading Time

Kennedy and Jonas really liked sitting in the chair with Mimi reading to them. She read Mr Brown Can Moo, Can You? Turns out they can and did "Mooooooooo"!

Bean Too

We're thrilled to finally have an ultrasound photo of our next baby to share with you all.

We've been a little slow in getting the news posted on the blog, preferring to wait until after our initial OB visit. Last week one of Kennedy's teachers asked me if we were going to have another baby. Seems they were studying hermana (sister) and hermano (brother) in Spanish class. When the teacher told the class that one of the other kids would be a big sister soon Kennedy jumped up and said "Me too!"

Our next baby is due on August 29th.

Musical Instruments

Kennedy got some musical instrument gifts from Mimi and Papa Clark. Her Music Together class starts again this week and we're excited to get back into the groove. We've just about worn out the last cd from the class we've played it so much.

Kennedy is quite the Thomas the Train fan and she scored some good Thomas gifts over the holidays. Here's Mimi playing Santa Clause and helping Kennedy with one of them.

Kennedy knows the names of all of the trains. She particularly likes the facial expressions on the trains and will come to us and say "Thomas happy" or "Gordon sad".

These gifts of toddler bling are from Kennedy's Great Grandma Lybarger.

Cookie Decorating

Jonas and Kennedy decorated holiday cookies at Mimi and Papa's house. These two laughed and giggled a lot, particularly when they sang "La" as loud as they could.

Grandma Lybarger came in from Western Kansas to see us all. Once she got there she stayed a while as her hometown was snowed-in without electricity. Bonus for us!

Jonas and Kennedy in sand pile

Kennedy's cousin Jonas spent some time with us at Mimi and Papa's too. Of course the sand pile was a big hit.

Jonas is just over a year older than Kennedy.

More Snow Pictures

Everytime we come in from playing in the snow Kennedy says "Thank you, Mommy." She really likes playing in the snow! Look at the snow blanket on our little neighborhood.

Kennedy and I took a walk around and saw a lot of activity. There were sledders and walkers and generally a lot of families out playing in the snow.

Not many stores were open, but our local coffee shop was so we stopped in to get warm and have some hot cocoa. In Kennedy's case, the cocoa was tepid.

She really liked the whipped cream on top and skimmed it off using her fingers.

Snow!

So much snow... Kennedy loves it too. We had a lot of fun in the yard. The snow is powder though so no snowman can be put together.

Kennedy figured out pretty fast that the funnest thing to do was pick up snow and throw it on mommy. Ha. Here she is about to catch up with me.

Snow and Sand

Snow! It's snowing here. We are staying home today. How cool is snow? I hope to get some pics up later. I'm sure you've noticed the blog change. Some challenges remain as I'm having challenges with ftp and getting the archive information posted.

Mimi and Papa Clark have a sand pile and rock pile at their house in Kansas. Here's a picture of Kennedy in the sand. She loves that sand pile!

Mimi and Kennedy Reading

Well, it's taken a while to get to these pictures but finally we've made it to the second half of our holiday travels. We visited Mimi and Papa Clark in Kansas. Here's a picture of Kennedy and Mimi reading a book. Kennedy has such fun visiting Mimi and Papa.

Play Clothes

Kennedy got some dress up clothes from Mema and Papa Sanford. She really liked the shoes. Stacey helped her put them on and showed her how to walk in them.

Walking in them was a bit challenging. Kennedy liked the click click click of the heels when she walked on the kitchen floor.

Karaoke

Robin got a karaoke system as a Christmas present. It was quite the popular present. Kennedy sat on Uncle Darrin's back while he sang and sang and sang his heart out.

Then Kennedy sang. Her favorite song was Row, Row, Row your Boat but she also belted out songs from her Music Together class, in particular the Hello Song.

Polished Nails

Kennedy's Aunt Patty polished her finger and toe nails for the first time ever during our holiday visit to Texas. We were all surprised that Kennedy sat still enough. She barely moved an inch. Afterwards Kennedy would show her polished nails and say "Patty did it" and then sing the "Happy Birthday to you" song. We all sang it for Patty's birthday and Kennedy associated the song with Patty.

Sanford Family Cake

Mom's been trying to get someone in the family interested in cooking the Sanford family cake and thus preserving a century old tradition. The problem is that none of the kids like this cake. My sister Shelly says this cake is 8 months short of a fruit cake and I'd say that's an accurate statement. None of the kids would even eat it when we were little, and we would eat anything including, apparently, sticks of butter! Dad, on the other hand, craves the cake. He loves it!

Turns out Kennedy likes the cake too. Go figure... Here's Papa feeding her yet another piece of cake.

Papa finally asked Shelly to get Kennedy her own piece of cake. She would eat a piece, go play and then come back and say "I need that" and point to the cake. Ah well, here's a cake that all of the rest of us will eat though, the German chocolate cake.

Ryan and Heather

Our nephew Ryan is such a fun young man! He's turned in to quite the tennis player, singer and is something of a braniac. He's just gotten his driver's learning permit.

His sister Heather is a student at Sam Houston State University. Kennedy adores Heather. They have a lot of fun together.

Spanish Flower

When we visit Houston we love to eat at the Spanish Flower. The food and service are great. In addition to hot, fresh, yummy tortillas, they also have excellent Mariachi music. Here's a picture of Kennedy and Stacey and one of the three mariachi singers.

All of the holiday pictures are on Susan's computer and I haven't had time to transfer them to mine yet, so I'm going current. Today we spent the afternoon and evening with Grandparents Anderson and celebrated a belated Christmas. Here's Kennedy opening one of her gifts.

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

On Friday before Christmas a good portion of the family joined us to see the Nutcracker Ballet. Kennedy had a blast (we all did!) and loves to talk about the Nutcracker Ballet.

Kennedy and Stacey enjoying the ambiance at the theater.

Here are Stacy and Carl posing before the performance.

It was all so much to take in for little Kennedy - she loved every minute of it and crashed hard at the very end.

After the ballet, we headed over to a Japanese hibachi restaurant for a little fun and family at dinner. Here is Shelly and her daughter Robin.

We had a large crowd and were happy to celebrate Patty's birthday.

Here we are at dinner - we had a great time!

Bed Head!! More updates soon!
